Miya Services is delighted to welcome Brian Little to our team as the new General Manager.
With extensive experience in community services, youth mentoring, career development, strategic policy, and employment training, Brian brings a deep passion for supporting young people, families, and communities — particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. His leadership aligns perfectly with our mission: to help guide and transform young people’s lives through meaningful mentorship in an environment of love, respect, and culturally informed practice.
Brian most recently served as Senior Policy Officer in the Strategy Division at the Department of Trade, Employment & Training (DTET). In this role, he managed projects supporting government initiatives, provided expert advice on complex strategic issues, led stakeholder engagement, and focused on delivering positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, individuals, and businesses.
Prior to this, Brian worked in Townsville as Acting Senior Project Officer and Field Officer with the Department of Employment, Small Business & Training. There he monitored the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program, supported disadvantaged cohorts to gain qualifications and employment, engaged with local businesses and schools, and ensured transparency in funding and program delivery.
From 2013 to 2017, Brian was Welfare & Education Officer at the North Queensland Cowboys. He delivered the NRL CareerWise Program across North Queensland and Mt Isa, provided holistic mentoring and off-field support to young players, conducted career assessments, coordinated workshops, and built strong partnerships with Indigenous groups, families, schools, and employers.
Brian holds a Diploma in Community Services Work (2017), Certificate IV in Career Development (2014), Certificate IV in Elite Athlete Wellbeing (2016), and Certificate IV in Community Services Work (2013).
“I am incredibly excited to join Miya Services and contribute to an organisation that truly puts young people and cultural respect at the heart of everything it does,” said Brian Little. “Together, we will continue to nurture pathways to independence and growth for the next generation in a safe, supportive environment.”
As CEO Lachlan Sloan added: “Brian’s proven expertise in youth development, Indigenous community engagement, advocacy, and program leadership makes him the ideal person to lead Miya Services into its next phase of growth. We are thrilled to have him on board as we expand our residential care, emergency accommodation, family contact, transition services and NDIS offering across Townsville and North Queensland.”
