Townsville, Queensland – Miya Services is pleased to announce the appointment of Genus Passi as the new Head of Development & Cultural Lead. In this pivotal role, Genus will drive the growth of Miya Services across Queensland while continuing to provide guidance on all cultural matters, ensuring that our approach remains rooted in respect and inclusivity.

Genus brings with him over 16 years of experience in Juvenile Justice and community development. His impressive career includes roles at Cleveland Youth Detention Centre, Townsville Corrective Services, and various non-profit organisations such as Murri Watch and PASS Sports Australia. Genus has also served in significant leadership positions, including as the Chair of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Community Advisory Council and Assistant Director at the Office of Northern Australia. Additionally, he is the current Board Chair of Yumba-Meta Housing in Townsville.

Notably, Genus chose to leave a role with the Federal Government to join Miya Services, driven by his passion for our work and his belief in our organization’s mission. His decision to make this change underscores his dedication to advocating for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly in the areas of Youth Services, Health, Housing, and Education.

“We are incredibly excited to have Genus on board. His leadership, experience, and deep cultural knowledge will play a critical role in shaping the future of Miya Services,” said Lachlan Sloan, CEO of Miya Services. “Genus’ commitment to the values we hold dear and his passion for supporting vulnerable communities make him an invaluable addition to our team.”

Genus has been a trusted advisor to Miya Services for the past six months, and his contributions have already had a significant impact on our approach to community engagement and service delivery. We are confident that his strategic vision will help propel Miya Services to new heights as we continue to expand and enhance our services across Queensland.

Miya Services remains committed to providing the highest standard of care for children and youth in state care, and the appointment of Genus Passi marks an important step in strengthening our organisation’s ability to deliver impactful, culturally informed services.
